Crypto Warriors Come To Vietnam's Rescue

Binance and KuCoin pledge substantial token donations to help those affected by Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam.

Crypto Warriors Come To Vietnam's Rescue

As Typhoon Yagi wreaks havoc in Vietnam, with over 250 lives lost and thousands more affected, the global cryptocurrency community has stepped up to offer swift support. Leading exchanges Binance and KuCoin have announced airdrop initiatives aimed at providing financial relief to victims in the most affected regions of the country.

Binance's charity arm has committed $1 million in Binance Coin (BNB) to support those suffering from the aftermath of the disaster. In their plan, affected users in 25 cities across northern Vietnam will receive $50 in BNB tokens, provided they completed their Proof of Address (POA) before September 10. For those unable to meet the initial deadline, Binance will offer $20 in BNB tokens, provided they register by September 30. The first batch of these tokens is scheduled for distribution starting September 16.

KuCoin, another major player in the cryptocurrency world, has also joined the effort. The exchange announced plans to airdrop 10,000 KuCoin Tokens (KCS), valued at approximately $80,000, to support the victims. Eligible users—those verified under the Know Your Customer (KYC) process and active on the platform between August 1 and September 12—will receive $20 in KCS tokens. KuCoin plans to begin distribution on September 18.

These airdrop efforts highlight the unique advantage that cryptocurrency donations offer during emergencies. According to Kim Grauer, Director of Research at Chainalysis, crypto’s ability to facilitate fast, cross-border transactions makes it an ideal tool for delivering aid quickly and efficiently in times of crisis.
