University of Wyoming Establishes Groundbreaking Bitcoin Research Institute
The new institute aims to enhance Bitcoin research quality and accessibility for academia and the public.
The University of Wyoming has announced the launch of the UW Bitcoin Research Institute, the first academic institution dedicated to the study of Bitcoin. Dr. Bradley Rettler, an Associate Professor of Philosophy and author of "Resistance Money: A Philosophical Case for Bitcoin," will serve as the institute’s inaugural director. The announcement was made at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference in Nashville.
The institute's mission is to improve the quality and impact of Bitcoin research. It plans to create faculty positions focused on Bitcoin, reward high-quality academic research, and encourage young scholars to pursue Bitcoin-related projects. Additionally, the institute will offer workshops on Bitcoin-related topics and connect researchers globally.
Dr. Rettler highlighted the need for more rigorous and accurate academic studies on Bitcoin, stating that the current research landscape lacks quality. The institute will aim to provide peer-reviewed research accessible to journalists, policymakers, and the public.
Strategically positioned, the University of Wyoming benefits from interdisciplinary academic collaboration, renewable energy sources, and a supportive legislative environment. The institute will collaborate with various departments within the university, including philosophy, economics, computing, and the Center for Blockchain and Digital Innovation.
Supporters of this initiative can make tax-deductible donations to the UW Bitcoin Research Institute. The institute has committed to holding all BTC donations, ensuring they are used to further Bitcoin research.
